melvillejackson asked:

Poker has gained popularity over years as one of the best online card games. While it can be played for free, many skilled players use it to mint money regularly. Many sites offer Poker on the Internet, but some are obviously better than others. Here, we have reviewed four of the best rooms in the business for you. Have a look.

Poker Stars – This room has the honor of spawning the gaming career of the winners of 2003 and 2004 World Series of Poker (main event). A startup bonus of 100% on deposits up to $50 is also a good thing for any newbie. The list of games includes popular titles like, Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 5 Card Draw and 7 Card Stud.

The software is stable and responsive. Even with more than a thousand players using it simultaneously, the software has never crashed or slowed down till date.

Overall rating for the room: 9/10 (A must-play experience)

Titan Poker – Although relatively new (it started in 2005), the Titan Poker room is gaining popularity among Poker enthusiasts worldwide. A startup bonus of around 50% on deposits of around $200 is pretty good for new players. The games offered include titles like Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud and 5 Card Stud.

The software developed by Playtech is stable with no crashes reported till date. However, when accessed by too many players, it does get a tad slow in response time.

Overall rating for the room: 8.5/10 (Perfect for starters)

Full Tilt Poker – This room became operational in 2004 and quickly shot to fame, due to its awesome startup bonuses. A bonus of around 100% on startup deposits of up to $600 is sure to entice any newbie. The games on offer include titles like Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo.

The software is of good quality with no problems reported till date. The cartoon-like graphics used in the room may not be appreciated by all, but it does provide a welcome break from the monotonous images used in most rooms.

Overall rating for the room: 9/10 (A must-play experience)

Party Poker – One of the oldest rooms in the business, Party Poker started its operations back in 2001, when online gaming was still in its nascent stage. For loyal players, Party Poker offers some of the best promotions every few months, like a 20% bonus to any extra cash deposited. The games on offer include Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo.

The software is fast and mostly reliable. There are some minor glitches regarding calculation of waiting times, but that does not ruin the experience. The best feature of the software is that it lets the player store his/her statistics in the player’s had disk.

Overall Rating: 8.9 (Must play for newbie, worth a try for veterans)

All 4 of the rooms mentioned above have excellent e-mail based customer support.

These four rooms have gained widespread popularity among gamers, due to the great startup bonuses, excellent software and great customer support. Visit one today and enjoy the games. See you in the winner’s circle.

Video Website

I specialize in 6 max one table sit’n'go’s with buyins ranging from $3.25 to $6.60. My return on investment typically hovers between ten and fifteen percent. I make the money in these games about 45% of the time with a good number of both second and first place finishes. Now, here is something that has me scratching my head:

In my last twenty 6 max sit’n'go’s, I have cashed only once! Two money spots are available in each game out of six players and I just can’t seem to get in there lately. Almost every coin flip in all of my key hands is not going my way. Lately, it seems if I move all in with my short stack and have the other player’s ace dominated, he hits his kicker to bust me. This losing streak seems to defy mathematics but I’m not sure. I seriously think I’m playing solid poker but few things are going my way.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on!?

Poker Stars Review

Will Win asked:

Studying the history of poker is a worthwhile venture. However, it will be tough to trace back to its exact origins. Its history goes way back and the exact origin is more conjecture than concrete fact.

According to the dictionary, poker was derived from the French word poque in the early 1800s. And in those days, poque wasn’t even poker. According to sources, community card poker games, such as Texas Hold’em, didn’t come into existence until the 1920s.

Ah the 1920s-girls, gangsters and music. Back then poker was played in super-secret locations where finely dressed gangsters would guard the games. And they weren’t the only ones armed. It was commonplace for players to pack the heat too. Bandits and rival gangs would sometimes raid good poker games and make off with the loot. Playing poker was really hazardous to your health.

The world of Poker dramatically changed in the 1970s and it’s this point in time that most closely resembles today’s poker world. It provided the foundation for everything we have today. The famous Word Series of Poker came along and setup the poker world for today’s numerous big-money poker tournaments, such as those offered by the World Poker Tour and countless venues around the world.

And that leads us to Poker on TV, which is even being embraced by mainstream media outlets such as NBC and ESPN. But what was the key moment in time that made this possible? Surely watching people play poker is boring right? We can all thank the hole card cam. This little invention changed the game. Poker was now fun and viable for TV and we haven’t looked back since.

In fact, you could say that this one invention changed it all. Today, Poker is booming. Players all over the world are playing on TV-most started on the Internet. It’s all thanks to poker being popularized-making stars of the average poker player. And that’s all thanks to the hole card cam, which made all of this possible.

Poker’s history is so rich and filled with fun twists and turns that it would be impossible to deal with it all in a single article. Hopefully this article has wetted your appetite.

If you want to learn more about poker’s history, start with the legendary names, such as Doyle Brunson, David Sklansky, Mike Caro, Binion and then move on to more recent stars, such as Gus Hanson and Daniel Negreanu.

Poker Slump

Brian Konradt asked:

Everyone thinks it is so easy to write a book. With so many people writing books these days, it is amazing there are enough people still buying books. In today’s world, if you have any amazing life experience, suddenly publishers want you to write a book about it. If it sells, then your experience was interesting enough to stimulate interest from a large audience; and if not, no one really cared.

This is why poker books fly off the shelves. Many people have life experiences playing poker. Many people want to read about these poker-playing scenarios, including the players involved. There will come a time when the reading public will demand more from its poker writers than in past years. After all, there is only so many ways you can cover the same game repeatedly when you are analyzing your own poker hands and games. This is where you come in.

As a writer, you can keep things in perspective. There will come a time when the poker players who write will run out of things to say if they are only covering their own play and games. Writers who are writers first and players second will have the opportunity to shine.

If you have a lot of talent writing about poker and gaming, you can launch your own online e-book store. If you choose to build a website and place your e-books on the website for sale, you will be branching into a new area of business you may not want to explore yet. While it can be profitable to run your own online e-book store, you may prefer to write e-books for clients.

Clients often hire ghostwriters to pen e-books to sell at their websites. Poker players and poker hobbyists who want to read about everything about poker will purchase these books online for a fee. The ClickBank.com marketplace, which sells gambling and gaming e-books penned by ghostwriters, is a good example of this.

SELF-PUBLISHING FOR SUCCESS

Many writers who are not brand names in the poker industry choose to self-publish their books and can still easily get their books sold at major bookstores, online and offline, like Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. Many writers choose to self-publish their books in digital format only because the process is quicker and less of a hassle.

Self-publishing has many advantages:

1. You don’t need a literary agent.

2. There is no submission or rejection process.

3. You own the rights to your material.

4. Whatever money you make, you keep.

5. Royalties are much higher if you choose a print-on-demand publisher.

6. The publishing and distribution process is a lot faster. For instance, if you use LuLu.com, you can make your book available in less than a day.

The disadvantage: you are responsible for marketing your book and generating sales. This may be a disadvantage or an advantage for you. For me, I enjoy self-publishing because it gives me control and creative freedom over every aspect of my book, including generating sales. I find self-publishing exciting.

If you are going to self-publish, decide if you will publish your book in digital format or in paperback (plus digital format). I recommend you first publish your book in digital format to test your book in the marketplace. Most writers use LuLu.com, a digital publisher, because of the low cost, quick turnaround, and your book will appear in its marketplace. When you feel it is time to publish your book in paperback, then go with a print-on-demand publisher. Many writers use BookSurge.com (owned by Amazon) so their books appear in Amazon as well as other major book stores.

Other self-publishing outlets include:

1) Clickbank.com. Many self-publishers use Clickbank.com as a sales outlet to generate a steady stream of sales for their book. Clickbank has one of the largest audiences of affiliates who are ready to sell your book for a commission. You will need to create your own website and sales page (also known as a “landing page”) for your book and then sign up with Clickbank to use their ordering system.

2) LightningSource.com can make your book in digital format and paperback format. Once you submit your book for publication, anyone can order your title, as a print-on-demand or as an ebook. Many popular online book stores (especially ebook stores) order from LightningSource.

3) AuthorHouse.com

4) BookSurge.com

If you decide not to self-publish yourself, try a reputable e-book publisher to handle everything for you, including marketing. Many e-book publishers will consider poker-related material. If the e-book publisher decides to publish your ebook, they may also offer to place the book in trade paperback. The publisher will offer more royalties and sometimes a higher advance.

BOOK WRITING SUCCESS

If you choose to write your own books and e-books, then follow these tips:

TIP # 1: Know your market and know where you can gain the most readership.

TIP # 2: Remember, non-fiction sells in poker. Don’t try to re-invent the wheel because it won’t work.

TIP # 3: Have your manuscript ready before you approach a publisher for electronic submissions or for trade submissions.

TIP # 4: As you are writing your manuscript, begin searching for markets where you will want to submit your work.

TIP # 5: Buy a Writer’s Market book so you can read over the markets and decide the best market for your manuscript.

TIP # 6: Avoid work-for-hire contracts from publishers. Sure, what publisher wouldn’t prefer to pay an up-front fee to a writer in lieu of royalties? Go for the royalties and take a chance on your own talents.

TIP # 7: Know your poker.

If you want to attract your poker-reading audience, writing books about strategies and systems can sell if it is based on a mathematical advantage or a tried and tested theory. If you aren’t able to do this, no one is going to read about going on your “gut” feelings or how poker players win more when the stars line up in their favor. Fact-based theories and strategies will sell, and nothing else will in this corner of the market.

An excellent way to generate book ideas is to attend poker events and tournaments and get close to the action. Go to these events armed and ready to learn all you can. At the end of the day you will have dozens of book ideas buzzing in your head. Spend some time in casino poker rooms to find other topics. Talk and network with poker players and try to find out if they desire to write a book with the assistance of a ghostwriter or with you as a co-author. As a ghostwriter or co-author, an excellent way to gain business is to hand out your business cards at writing conventions, casinos, poker events and poker tournaments.

Doyles Room Bonus

Harold Blue asked:

Christmas 2008 is fast approaching and you might want to start making your shopping list now to avoid the stirring holiday rush and ultimately forefend being potentially labeled as a crappy gift giver. Since both you and I are fans of online gambling, particularly online poker – I am going to list down 8 great Christmas gift ideas to give away for our online poker addict friends.

Books – There are a lot of books that give tips on how to play your online poker game well. If you are a serious online poker player, Doyle Brunson’s “Super System” is a great addition to a poker player’s arsenal. I would also recommend “The Full Tilt Poker Strategy Guide: Tournament Edition”. Brunson’s Super System (I and II) covers the spectrum of online poker as played in ring games at casinos. This volume is the counterpart for tournament play.

Poker Movies in DVD plus 21– Both “California Split” and “The Rounders” are classic poker movies. Califonia Split of 1974 is the only movie to ever attempt to show the day to day life of card-playing, sports-betting, sleep-till-noon gamblers. While “The Rounders” is a story about how a poker player can read the mind of his opponents like a book but can’t read the minds of his traitor girlfriend and best friend. Ludicrous isn’t it? Yet, the poker scenes are really good and you can make this an online poker educational movie marathon at the end of the day. I would also recommend 21 even if it’s not about poker. “21: The Movie” is a recent drama film from Columbia pictures. The film is actually inspired by a true story of the MIT Blackjack Team. Really good movie. Albeit the movies are not directly about online poker gaming, you’d still learn a few tips and polish your online poker strategies further. To top this wonderful Christmas treat, make sure that popcorn and soda are present.

LCD Monitor – If you have money splurge and you’re feeling generous, an LCD monitor would surely put you in your friend’s “Best Gift Giver” list. A big monitor resolution is great way to enhance one’s online poker gaming experience via multi-tabling. Multi-tabling is good for online poker tournaments since reads are not that important, and you don’t usually have to watch every piece of action to gauge your opponents.

Poker Padz – This is a green felt, poker table-shaped mouse pad made from the same materials used on casino poker tables around the world. This should be the most amusing and cute gift for an online poker player since this mouse pad even let’s you hold a couple of stacks of chips. Your online poker friend would surely enjoy re-creating the feel of live action poker while intently playing online.

Poker Heads – As online poker players, there are several iconic poker players we look up to. Cyber Arts, an online poker software developer, advised to go for inspirational gifts and incite the poker master in each of us by giving collectible Poker Heads. Poker Heads are limited edition bobblehead collectibles, also known as the Stars of Poker Series.

Poker Video Games – These poker games are a good break from the competitive realm of online poker. These games also enable one to get a poker fix without putting any real money at risk. One of the hottest titles is the game “Stacked,” available for the Xbox. This retails for $29.99, and is unique in that it features adaptive artificial intelligence, and you can get tips from Daniel Negreanu as you play. Other titles available for Xbox and Play Station 2 include: “World Championship Poker,” “World Poker Tour,” and “World Series of Poker.”

A Poker Themed Wall Clock – For the round-the-clock online poker players, this poker-themed wall clock is a great addition to liven-up a bland wall with poker aesthetics. These clocks have neon, and look great on a wall near any poker or pool table and even next to your computer. They can be found for about $50 (with neon); less expensive models can be found, too.

A Check – Give a check either to pay for the registration or offer to pay the buy-ins, any avid online poker player would love you for that.

For more information, you can check on online gaming software and development.

Article Posting
